The UK Climate Change Bill - Update and Information



The Climate Change Bill is a historic piece of legislation. The following information summarises key elements of the bill:

Cut emissions by at least 80% by 2050 and at least 26% by 2020

Five-year budgets set three years ahead. Annual progress reports to Parliament

To advise Government on carbon budgets and targets and cost effective emissions saving

Developing and reporting policies and proposals for meeting budgets + Powers to introduce domestic emissions trading schemes

Government to report at least every five years on climate change risk and publish a programme to address them. Power to require public authorities to take action based on risk assessment.
