Steel Engineering to invest in Scotland
Steel Engineering, a welder and fabricator of massive and complex metal structures, is poised to invest £3 million to create a new industrial port on the banks of the White Cart.
The Renfrew-based firm is receiving a £1.8 million government grant through Scottish Enterprise towards the £3 million investment. Steel Engineering says the investment will enable it to double its full-time workforce, create 120 jobs, and expand its business servicing a range of clean energy sectors, including offshore wind, wave and tidal power.
It has also emerged that Skills Development Scotland is in discussions with the Steel Engineering about a planned training school, which will be named The Renewable Energy Steel Trades Academy. In partnership with Anniesland College, the company plans to provide intensive and exclusive training tailored to the latest fabrication techniques, and welding procedures required by the renewables industry.
