About the Eastman project
Wind Direct installed two 2MW wind turbines on Eastman’s industrial complex, with civil works completed in October 2006 on time and on budget.
Eastman is the first UK chemical plant to install wind turbines for on-site generation of green energy, supporting their competitiveness and security of electricity supply.
The two wind turbines generate more than 25% of the electricity required by the site.
In 2007, Eastman received a Chemical Industry Energy Award from the Chemical Industries Association for improving energy efficiency and also an IChemE, Resource Efficient Manufacturing Award 2007.
The use of green clean energy from a renewable source fits perfectly with the company's Responsible Care® policy and underlines the company's commitment toward the environment.
Eastman’s Maintenance & Procurement Manager, Paul Cooper is focussed on the business angle and the savings that his team has been able to instigate. Paul said “We got involved with Wind Direct because we saw energy prices increasing. First and foremost Wind Direct is giving us lower electricity prices.”
