Wales boosts green plans

Wales boosts green plans
Wales is aiming to become one of the UK's leading regions of alternative energy development and research, according to Dow Jones Newswires.

The financial news source reported today that the country is working to encourage green energy innovators to establish themselves in Wales - which plans to generate 100 per cent of its electricity from renewable means by 2025.

"Wales has a good track record of attracting inward investment and getting its act together to generate economic development in a specific area," said the head of renewables at consultancy Ernst & Young, Jonathan Johns.

"It's also got very good natural resources as well as a strong technical base so it's very well placed for research and development in the clean tech sector."

He added that the Welsh Assembly is working to focus funding obtained by the European Union and the UK government into specific research and development projects - including the new Wales Low Carbon Research Institute.

Earlier this month, the Daily Post reported that the controversial 25-turbine Rhyl Flats offshore windfarm project could power up to 61,000 Welsh homes with renewable electricity once the project is complete.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18551160-ADNFCR
