UK recycling awards finalists announced

UK recycling awards finalists announced
One of the UK's most prestigious recycling awards ceremonies has revealed its list of finalists.

The 2009 Awards for Excellence Recycling and Waste Management, which is run by Letsrecycle.com, has chosen the shortlist from more than 160 entries.

There are individuals, businesses and community organisations among the challengers for the prizes, which are in their sixth year.

London's Landmark Hotel in Regents Park will be the venue for the awards show, which will take place on October 20th.

Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com, said that improvements in energy efficiency and sustainable waste operations will be rewarded.

He commented: "Both the quantity and quality of entries we've received this year has been exceptional.

"It proves just how much fantastic work is being undertaken to encourage sustainable waste management by businesses, community groups, local authorities and waste management companies."

Dermot Murnaghan, the broadcast journalist, will be on hand to present the awards, while Environment Agency chairman, Lord Chris Smith, will be a guest speaker.
