UK offshore wind industry 'is extremely attractive'
The UK boasts one of the "biggest single accessible offshore wind resources in the world", making investment in renewables extremely attractive, according to one expert.

Rob Hastings, director of marine estate at the Crown Estate, said that current policy encourages the "rapid deployment of offshore wind" in the UK and that by the year 2018 6GW of offshore wind farms will be installed each year.

Figures released recently by the Department of Energy and Climate Change show that the generation of energy from renewable sources increased by 17 percent in 2009, compared with 2007 levels.

Power generated from offshore wind sources grew by 33 percent, with wind accounting for 37 percent of the renewable energy produced overall.

According to Mr Hastings, Britain has "few options in consideration of its energy needs" and therefore must create policies to support these.

"We are currently in a position that there are more sites that have the consent with the right to construct than are being constructed – few countries can offer that," he added.ADNFCR-1235-ID-19870516-ADNFCR
