UK government urged to deliver environmental strategy in the Budget
Chancellor George Osborne is being urged to deliver on a new green growth plan by a coalition of business leaders.
The Aldersgate Group said that the UK is falling behind other countries in its attempt to build a green economy, which could have a knock-on effect on investment and jobs.
A report from the group, which includes BT, Microsoft, the National Grid and Friends of the Earth among others, states that the UK needs a "strong policy framework to address market failure across the economy".
"The chancellor has promised a 'budget for growth' but we believe this must be a 'budget for green growth'. The UK needs an explicit strategy to take advantage of the global shift to a green economy; driving jobs and exports. Cuts alone will not deliver a competitive economy," said Peter Young, chairman of the Aldersgate Group.
Mr Osborne will deliver his second Budget on March 23rd.
