UK emissions cut 22% on 1990 levels

UK emissions cut 22% on 1990 levels
The UK has reduced its emissions by almost a quarter on 1990 levels, according to the first annual emissions report based on the carbon budgets system.

Emissions have been cut 22 percent within the past 20 years, with the aim of making a reduction of 80 percent on 1990 levels by 2050.

On the news, energy and climate change minister Joan Ruddock said that targets beyond 2020 will be met through policies to develop green-collar jobs, investment in clean energy and making homes more energy-efficient.

Reductions have exceeded the targets set out in the Kyoto Protocol, which stipulated that the UK cut its emissions by 12.4 percent below 1990 levels.

The protocol states that countries must meet these goals through domestic measures.

Last year, the first carbon budgets were announced alongside the autumn's fiscal budget, when the government invested an additional £1.4 billion into the low carbon sector.

Among the targeted areas were carbon capture and storage, support for renewable energy developers and investment in energy-efficiency measures across all sectors.

The 22% cut on 1990 levels gives the impression we've been on the right track for a couple of decades. This is not the truth. The cuts from 1990 happened in the early 90's, under the Conservative Government as the coal industry collapsed and the 'dash for gas' replaced coal for electricity. Over the 2nd decade since 1990, under the Labour Government, emissions have increased.

I thank Mr Vernon for his research which I have no difficulty in believing. I also notice that there just happens to be a picture of a "windfarm" adjacent. This could possibly give the impression that the "cuts" are in some way related. Both are lies. "Modern wind turbines" as the halfwit con-artists who promulgate the things call them, take several hundred years to return the energy expended in creating them. They are objet d'art, and nothing more. A very well designed wind turbine-alternator device - TAD - can readily return some 5% of its cost, annually, and if anyone is interested, I will send the reasons why this 5% I quote is about 40 x that returned by the devices in the picture. bertdotwindonatgmaildotcom.
