Solar panels 'offering better ROI than savings accounts'

Solar panels 'offering better ROI than savings accounts'
A strong return on investment is driving the domestic market for solar panels, one expert has claimed.

David Hunt, sales and marketing director at renewable energy company Eco Environments, said just ten percent of its customers are interested in solar panels "purely for green reasons".

"Most people are looking at it now domestically because they are going to get two or three percent on an ISA or out of the bank account, but with the solar they can get 15 percent," he said.

The comments come after housing minister Grant Shapps called on architects to search for new ways to make homes greener as the construction industry moves towards the 2016 zero-carbon homes target.

Mr Shapps said if steps are not taken then "eco-bling" could become a dominant feature of neighbourhoods in the UK, much like it already is in Scandinavia.

He added he believes people "want to buy homes, not causes" and zero-carbon properties can fit with the character of the neighbourhoods they're in. ADNFCR-1235-ID-800617636-ADNFCR
