Six months left to get low carbon grants

Six months left to get low carbon grants
Schools, hospitals and charitable organisations are being urged to apply for their Low Carbon Buildings Programme grants.

They have until June 2009 to apply for funding which they can then put towards the implementation of green measures such as wind turbines and solar panels.

Homeowners can also apply for similar grants through the scheme, although they have until June 2010, the Department of Energy and Climate Change says.

Sustainable development and energy innovation minister, Lord Hunt of Kings Heath said: "Encouraging people and communities to generate their own green energy can help in the fight against climate change.

"The Low Carbon Buildings Programme provides money towards the upfront costs of installing equipment like solar panels, wind turbines or biomass boilers and it has the potential to help hundreds more homes and public sector buildings."

Already, 367 schools across the UK have taken advantage of the scheme which not only helps to cut costs but can be used as a way of educating youngsters about the environment.
