ScottishPower finishes meter upgrades

ScottishPower finishes meter upgrades
ScottishPower has completed a mass programme of meter upgrade installations.

The firm has become the first energy company in the UK to finish the replacement programme.

New smart key meters have been installed in 340,000 homes as part of the scheme to improve the energy efficiency of properties.

Neil Clitheroe, customer services director at ScottishPower, said: "Our engineers have worked hard to deliver this major investment in very good time.

"During the peak of the replacement programme, we were upgrading 3,000 meters every week. The new meters are more user friendly than their predecessors, and customers will see immediate benefits."

Information campaigns involving home visits have also been carried out during the two-year, £50 million operation.

These have helped to provide customers with information on low carbon fuel and the environmental benefits of more efficient energy meters.

ScottishPower has met a target set to Ofgem to replace all of its old token meters by the end of the year, with nearly four months to spare.
