William Hague: Nuclear is essential for UK's green goals
The construction of new nuclear facilities in the UK is essential to reducing the country's dependence on fossil fuels, according to foreign secretary William Hague.

Mr Hague told members of the Council on Foreign Relations that the nuclear plants will have to "justify themselves economically", the Associated Press reports.

"I really see no alternative to that except excessive dependence on oil and gas, and imported liquefied natural gas," he is quoted as saying.

The foreign secretary also said that the nuclear plants are likely to be built on the site of existing reactors, many of which are due to be retired in the next 15 years.

According to the news provider, Mr Hague did not say how many he anticipates will be built.

Energy and climate change minister Chris Huhne has also said in the past there will be no government subsidy for nuclear development.

He told the BBC's AM Show on Sunday that it is likely to benefit from many of the initiatives put in place to increase low carbon power production.  ADNFCR-1235-ID-800086347-ADNFCR

Mr Hague seems to have fallen into the EDF propaganda trap! Nuclear is anything but green. I wonder whether he has heard of renewables?

Mr Hague is probably getting party supoprt somehow by being a proponent of Nuclear, or somekind of benefit in kind with the French or Americans.

Personnaly I am totally against it. If it were put to the vote, I think the majority of people would vote against it.

We have to go fo the end game - 100% renewables.
