Water source heat pumping a cost effective renewable source

Water source heat pumping a cost effective renewable source
Water source heat pumping is an environmentally-friendly way to generate energy and is also cost-effective for small communities and consumers.

That is according to British Eco Energy, an organisation that promotes energy efficiency for homeowners, which highlighted the long-term financial benefits posed by the technology.

A type of geothermal technology, the pump consists of a loop of pipe filled with water that can extract heat from rivers, streams or lakes. Such systems can usually provide cooling as well as heating.

Helena Wright, an advisor at the group, also called for more UK investment in the development of renewable energy sources.

"The economic situation presents the perfect opportunity to invest in this type of energy," she said.

"It can actually create jobs and benefit people in the long-term like lowering energy bills."

Her comments came after ISO Energy announced that a water source pump has been installed at a community project near Tower Bridge in London.

Made up of river boats and dockside buildings, the Hermitage River Project will derive heating and hot water from the pump.

The Energy Saving Trust estimates that heat pumps can typically help households reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by as much as seven tonnes a year.

"Heat-pumping" - or The Fridge - is not a source of eneergy as we all know. It is a way to get one thing coller than ambient and simultaneously another thing warmer - and warmer than it would have got by just ABSORBING the ENERGY which is used to drive the fridge.
The idea has been around for many years - probably since the invention of the Fridge - but for some reason people have never invested in it. Maybe someone will have a notion of why that might have been - or still be.
The only big example of the idea being implemented, that I have heard of, was in Norwich - The City hall ?. pre 1950, I would guess
