Water firm uses 'zero-emission vehicle'
Natural mineral water company Hildon has integrated a zero-emission van into its distribution fleet and is using the vehicle to transport bottled water in the London area.

The customised vehicle includes a raised roof and floor, giving a totally flat floor and an absence of wheel-arched intrusions to aid the delivery of weighty products on pallets.

Its use of the van has been successful, Transport News Network reports, with the firm now ordering a second for its deliveries.

Debbie Jones, environmental manager for Hildon, said: "The Modec vehicle was purchased as part of our continued drive to become more environmentally friendly and to reduce our carbon footprint."

She added that the success of the van means that the company has been able to take a diesel HGV off the road.

Modec claims to be the most advanced available purpose-built zero emission commercial vehicles, with a silent vibration free motion making the vehicle suitable for deliveries in residential areas early in the morning or late at night.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18532526-ADNFCR

This is an interesting one...can a water company really be on the right track by using zero emissions vehicles? Of course it's better than a standard old smelly diesel doing the rounds but delivering water itself is surely the issue rather than the method of delivery! We have generally speaking a very good water supply in this country, tap water has proven itself time and again to be a competent competitor to bottled water...anyone have any different views?
