Resource efficiency could help business survival in challenging times

Resource efficiency could help business survival in challenging times
Resource efficiency can play an important part in helping businesses save time and money in this challenging economic climate, according to Envirowise.

The government-supported advice and consultation body claimed that resource efficiency can lead to significant savings for businesses.

Elaine Sharp, programme marketing manager, said: "One manufacturing company introduced a pallet reuse and resale scheme and saw £100,000 in savings over two years. These sorts of figures should make businesses sit up and take notice of the savings they can make for themselves."

Similar advice was handed out by Environment Agency Chairman Lord Chris Smith at the organisation's board meeting in December.

He said companies should adopt a "green business if good business" approach and said modifications to waste and utility procedures would have a direct impact on turnover.

As well as affecting the bottom line, improving environmental performance also contributes to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Earlier this year a survey by ACTE-KDS revealed that 27 per cent of organisations would rather do business with suppliers and partners that have a CSR charter in place.
