RES outlines plans for Den Brook windfarm in England
Renewable Energy Systems (RES) has revealed details of its plans to build a windfarm at Den Brook, in the English west country.
A public inquiry was launched on July 23rd by the planning inspector into the proposals, which would see nine large turbines built in West Devon.
In response, the renewable energy company has claimed that its Okehampton project would bring positive benefits to the local economy, as well as contributing towards the country's burgeoning low-carbon sector.
RES said that the Den Brook windfarm will generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of 8,000 homes, while significantly reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that is produced in the area.
Rachel Ruffle, project manager, explained that it had been carefully designed to exercise minimum impact on the local environment.
"The public and politicians on all sides support a shift towards renewable energy in order to tackle climate change and make our energy supplies more secure," she said.
"Now we need action, not just talk, and good quality renewable energy projects like Den Brook should be allowed to go ahead without further delay."
Yesterday, the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced that £1 billion of funding will be made available for onshore windfarm projects waiting to enter the construction phase.
