Religious leaders brand climate change response 'moral outrage'

Religious leaders brand climate change response 'moral outrage'
Scotland's religious leaders have written to the prime minister slamming the attitude of the western world towards climate-related issues in developing nations.

Members of both the Christian and Islamic faiths in the country described it as a "moral outrage" that the west is "unwilling to find the money" to combat climate change, the BBC reports.

The letter to David Cameron called on the UK to ensure that a "fair, ambitious and legally-binding" agreement on climate change is made at the United Nations' summit in Cancun, which began today.

According to the news provider, the letter also said: "The final agreement must also include vastly improved greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for the wealthiest nations and greater financing for poor countries to help them cope with the challenges brought on by climate change."

Stewart Stevenson, Scotland's climate change secretary, is among those attending the talks, but his UK counterpart Chris Huhne has already warned that a binding agreement will not be made at the summit.

Mr Huhne said the summit will instead get climate change talks "back on track". ADNFCR-1235-ID-800259697-ADNFCR

Those religious leaders can do their own big bit to stop climate change: tell their flock to stop breeding. The Earth is full.
