Renewable energy apprenticeship deal signed

Renewable energy apprenticeship deal signed
Some 150 renewable energy apprenticeships could be available in Scotland if windfarm plans are approved.

Adam Smith College (ASC) and Carbon Free Developments say that the deal is a UK-first and will go ahead if the latter gets permission to build nine turbines, with a collective capacity of 20.7 MW, on an old coal mine site in Fife.

The apprenticeships will be open to anyone in the area who is at least 16 years old, including those who are looking to retrain. Over the 25 years that the windfarm is expected to be operational, there will be six places available each year.

Dominic Farrugia, director of Carbon Free Developments, said that the plans are part of a series from a number of developers which will see Fife become a leading renewable energy hub.

"From our extensive consultation with local residents and community groups, we know there is widespread enthusiasm for this project, which will make this ground-breaking apprentice scheme possible," he added.

Carbon Free Developments is also working on two further windfarm developments in Neilston and Moy, both in Scotland.  ADNFCR-1235-ID-800073963-ADNFCR
