Humber Gateway wind farm plans approved
Permission has been granted for the construction of the 230MW Humber Gateway wind farm.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change yesterday (February 9th) gave the go-ahead to E.ON to begin work on the project, which once completed will produce enough energy to power 150,000 homes.

Up to 77 turbines are set to be installed at a site 8km off the Holderness Coast and 30km of underground cabling will connect the wind farm to a recently-approved substation near Salt End.

Energy and climate change secretary Chris Huhne said the announcement will provide a further jobs boost to the region and is "hot on the heels of Siemens' announcement of plans to develop the Port of Hull".

"Offshore wind not only provides clean, green, secure energy, the investment that comes with it is great for the UK economy too," Mr Huhne added.

The Humber Gateway wind farm is the fifth such development for E.ON in the UK.

Last year, Mr Huhne opened the world's largest offshore wind farm, comprising 100 turbines, off the coast of Kent.  ADNFCR-1235-ID-800396682-ADNFCR

1. Wave Gear Drive System-WGD
The WGD complements offshore wind turbine systems by adding Ebb/Tide reversible hydro turbo generator and using the same offshore structure as that of the WGD system to extract additional energy.
The WGD system provides wave power leveling to provide constant power through the whole cycle of the wave of 360 degrees
The WGD system consists of a buoyant float on the sea surface moving up and down with the wave motion developing an uplift force of 2,650.7 Kilograms. This uplift force is transferred through a set of pulleys and reduction gear to pumps or generators to generate electric The equipment used is the following:
a. Wave Air Pump-WAP: Compresses a small quantity of air to a high pressure; collects and feeds it to the air inlet of a turbo generator. Fuel is injected as needed to maintain required turbo generator output at reduced fuel consumption irrespective of availability of waves. Adding a “fogging system” will improve the efficiency.
b. Wave Gear Drive Pump-WGDP: The float directly drives a pump through a set of pulleys and reduction gear to pump a small quantity of water to a high head; collect and feed it to a hydro-turbo generator to generate electric power.
c. Wave Gear Drive Generator-WGDG: The float directly drives a Generator through a set of pulleys and reduction gear, to directly generate electric power. The generator can be:
I. A synchronous AC Generator where Alternating voltage is conditioned; synchronized and feed to a step up transformer for transmission through a cable to the shore.
II. A DC Generator where Direct Current voltage is conditioned, converted to AC voltage, synchronized and feed to a step up transformer for transmission through a cable to the shore.
