Heating industry fears damage to reputation
Maintaining the reputation of members of the plumbing and heating industry is essential as the number of renewable technology installations increases, one industry body has claimed.
The heating and plumbing industry is well poised to benefit from the Renewable Heat Incentive, which the government believes will see a seven-fold increase in the number of industrial, commercial and public sector installations by 2020.
Some 150,000 manufacturing, supply chain and installation roles will also be supported under the scheme.
Kevin Wellman, operations director at the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering, said it is vital that the government is committed to green technology, as members of the public are becoming more accepting of "discussions about carbon footprint".
However, he said the "big fear" for members of the industry was that the small minority of bad installers could damage the reputation of others.
"[We must] avoid the unscrupulous people jumping on the bandwagon talking about renewable technologies and creating mayhem or bad press for the competent and conscientious installers out there," he added.
