Feed-in tariff scheme 'off to a good start'

Feed-in tariff scheme 'off to a good start'
The feed-in tariff scheme is off to a good start and has led to a strong and steady growth in solar panel installation in recent months, it has been claimed.

Figures from the energy watchdog Ofgem show that a record number of homeowners took advantage of the scheme to install photovoltaic power capacity in August, with 2,257 households fitting solar panels over the month.

According to the Renewable Energy Association, while this is by no means a "boom" it represents a good start to the scheme and means that growth can comfortably be supported by the emerging supply chain.

"We don't want to see a boom-bust scenario as has happened in other markets, but we're reasonably confident, with the start that the feed-in scheme has got off to and the rates that [have] been set – we believe the rates are about right – that we will get good growth but not unsustainable growth," the association's technical director Stuart Pocock said.

He added that the commercial sector is also starting to see growth in uptake of photovoltaic power generation with a number of schools and hospitals looking to fit solar panels.

This information should be useful for policy makers in India and Asian countries. http://jdbapat.blogspot.com

We have seen a marked increase in PV installations in our business in the last 2 months. As people become aware of the FIT's so the demand is increasing.
I do not think that enough people are aware of them yet and that the April 2011 for the decrease of the introductory rate is too soon, I think this should be extended a further 12 months in order for everyone to be informed of them
