Cycle to work scheme praised
A transport watchdog has praised the government's new 'cycle to work' initiative.
London TravelWatch said that the programme is a "step in the right direction" and will encourage people to trade in cars and public transport for the greener option when it comes to reaching the office.
Under the scheme, the government offers tax breaks to public and private sector organisations that support their staff using bicycles to get to work.
Funding for bikes, cycle racks, lockers and other equipment will be made available through these tax breaks.
Jo deBank, a spokeswoman for London TravelWatch, said that the initiative is "generally a good thing" but expressed concern over its success.
"I'm not sure how many people will take it up though, that's the trouble," she explained.
"The proof of the pudding is in the eating, with schemes like this. It will be interesting to see just how much and what companies take up the initiative."
