Public 'buying into' low carbon materials

Public 'buying into' low carbon materials
New research has revealed that nearly everyone in Britain has bought low carbon materials during the past 12 months.

Data from the Carbon Trust showed that spending on products carrying the special logo is set to top £2 billion a year, helped by the fact that 90 percent of households are now buying these items.

Furthermore, it stated that each family spends £77 a year on goods which bear the footprint logo.

Euan Murray, spokesman for the trust, said: "With big brands such as Tesco taking action to reduce the carbon footprint of many of the products we buy every day, there's been a quiet kitchen revolution over the last three years."

He added that it was "amazing" to think that if the footprint of low carbon materials, such as groceries, was reduced by just one percent, then over one million tonnes of carbon would be saved.

Recently, The Energy Saving Trust revealed that two-thirds of people are more inclined to try and save energy now that economic times are tough.ADNFCR-1235-ID-800115686-ADNFCR
