People hungry for green homes

People hungry for green homes
Homebuyers want a property which is energy efficient and estate agents should be more aware of this, it has been suggested.

Environmental group Friends of the Earth says that there is a "clear public appetite for green homes" and that a property's green features can be a good selling point.

Marie Reynolds, spokesperson for the organisation, said that "with mounting concern about rising fuel prices and the slowdown in the economy, a more energy efficient home will save a small fortune in bills".

A report by the Energy Savings Trust released earlier this year suggested that 53 per cent of homeowners would be willing to pay more for green homes.

It found that buyers would splash an extra £3,350 for a property which had green features such as double glazing.

Ms Reynolds said that some green measures, such as solar panels, can be pricey for homeowners but that making energy efficient changes would be beneficial in the long-term.

"If you can buy a house with green features already fitted, you only stand to gain financially," she said. ADNFCR-1235-ID-18820359-ADNFCR
