New recycling centre opens in British town

New recycling centre opens in British town
A household waste recycling centre in Wrexham has been opened to provide residents with access to improved environmental services.

Constructed by Waste Recycling Group (WRG) on behalf of Wrexham County Council, the new facility offers additional options for recycling, as well as easier access to skips.

The local community will be able to use the purpose-built site to recycle newspapers, magazines, glass, plastic, clothing, cardboard, batteries, oil and garden waste, which could result in a reduction in the size of the Welsh town's carbon footprint.

Opening the new site, mayor of Wrexham David Griffiths said: "The old site was very busy and I have no doubts that this new and modern recycling centre will be just as popular.

"Recycling rates are up and residents can now look forward to increasing [them further] by using a safer and cleaner site."

David Rees, general manager of WRG, added that the new centre will help to secure a more "sustainable future" for waste and resource management in Wrexham.

The firm is contracted to build two more sites in the town, including a materials recovery plant with an integrated composting facility.

Last month, a report by the Audit Commission suggested that councils have made "significant progress" on waste management over the past six years.
