New officer to address low carbon construction

New officer to address low carbon construction
The UK government has announced the creation of a new chief construction officer role, which focus upon sustainable buildings and other issues within the sector.

One of the main reasons for the new position is to ensure the main barriers to the growth of low carbon construction in the UK.

An enhanced sustainable construction strategy delivery board has also been set up to assist the officer in this respect.

The Technology Strategy Board will also liaise with the officer to further green innovations within the construction sector, alongside the Strategic Forum for Construction and a new chief construction adviser.

Ian Pearson, the economic secretary, said: "This role will provide a central focal point for the construction sector acknowledging the value of this sector and the importance of delivering a sustainable and low carbon economy that remains competitive.

"The chief construction adviser will help ensure that government secures maximum value for money in its procurement of construction and thus support the aims of the Operational Efficiency Programme."

Last month, the UK government launched its Low Carbon Industrial Strategy.

We at Touchwood Homes built our first energy efficient home in the mid 90s this was Passiv Haus standard before Passiv Haus was invented. We are now producing houses to this standard across the nation and we feel that there is no reason why every home shouldn't be built this way. They require no standard space heating system the only heating requirement is for a small amount of energy for heating domestic hot water when the solar thermal panels are not producing.

With the installation of Photovoltaics they can be zero carbon, it is not difficult, the technology exists now, it only has to be adopted by our oh so traditional stick in the mud construction industry. The new construction officer can come to see us anytime.
