New car CO2 emissions falling

New car CO2 emissions falling
New car emissions have fallen by 15 percent in the past five years, new research has claimed.

A study published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders revealed efforts to boost the availability of alternative vehicle technologies and more efficient engines have caused CO2 production to slide.

However, uptake of lower emissions vehicles was said to vary across the UK. Drivers in Chester were most likely to get behind the wheel of vehicles with emissions less than 140g/km CO2 , while those in Plymouth were least likely.

Green transport technologies were identified as a key target in the government's recently published Renewables Roadmap.

In 2010, the UK met just 3.6 percent of energy demand from road transport with renewables, although this is up from 0.2 percent in 2005.

Primary objectives for the furtherance of green transport options were boosting biofuel sustainability and deployment, creating a plug-in vehicle infrastructure, offering financial support for the purchase of low-emissions vehicles and supporting transport innovations.  ADNFCR-1235-ID-800621289-ADNFCR
