More choice needed for those wanting green travel
People who want to choose a more environmentally-friendly method of transport should be given more options, it has been suggested.
The Campaign for Better Transport has said that the solution to green travel is to provide UK residents with more choice.
Jason Torrance, campaigns director, said that cost of petrol is forcing people to look at cheaper forms of travel other than driving.
He added, however that it will "only go so far while the government fails to significantly invest in cycling infrastructure and oversees, in real terms, the falling cost of motoring and the increasing cost of public transport".
Last month, RAC research revealed that 77 per cent of drivers said they would buy a more environmentally-friendly car if there were better tax incentives.
Mr Torrance said: "I think that we need a massive boost to the incentives that the government is providing to enable people to choose low-carbon forms of transport such as green cars."
