Microgeneration pay scheme to launch in spring

Microgeneration pay scheme to launch in spring
Families and businesses that generate their own energy from devices such as solar panels and wind turbines will be able to claim money back from April under the feed-in-tariffs (FiTs) scheme.

Householders and communities will be paid for generating energy, even if they use the energy themselves rather than exporting it to the National Grid.

According to the department for energy and climate change, a 'typical' 2.5 killowatt solar installation could receive £900 under the FiTs scheme and reduce electricity bills by £140 a year.

The energy and climate change minister Ed Miliband said: "The guarantee of getting an income on top of savings on energy bills will be an incentive to householders and communities wanting to make the move to low carbon living.

"The feed-in tariff will change the way householders and communities think about their future energy needs, making the payback for investment far shorter than in the past.

"It will also change the outlook for a range of industries, in particular those in the business of producing and installing small scale low carbon technology."

The feed in Tarriffs is set high enough to intise, but not high enough to really stimulate mass demand. The big question is,with energy prices set to move, will the feed in tariff be pegged to the price of grid electriciy.
