Lowest carbon car to come to UK

Lowest carbon car to come to UK
A vehicle claimed to be the UK's lowest carbon emitting car is to hit the streets early next year.

The supermini diesel Smart ForTwo CDI emits less carbon than competitors and significantly less than EU targets.

Using a super efficient diesel engine, the new model ForTwo emits just 88 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre, well below the EU target of 130 grams per kilometre.

As well as a low emitting engine, the car comes equipped with a closed particulate filter to cut down air pollution released by the car exhaust.

While the car boasts impressive green credentials, including 74.3 miles per gallon, motoring fans will be less impressed by its performance.

It accelerates from 0-60 miles per hour in a slow 19.8 seconds and gets 44bhp from its 799cc diesel engine.

Already on the streets in Italy and Germany, the new Smart will be on UK roads next February.
