LowCarbonEconomy backs green community project
A worldwide community for creative talent supported by LowCarbonEconomy.com and Greenpeace is working on developing images that will contribute to reducing carbon emissions from road transport.
Members of the Berlin-based jovoto.com community of professionals have been asked to come up with campaigns that will help promote Greenpeace's proposed reforms for Germany's company car taxation system.
Currently the taxation system provides financial benefits for company cars, but doesn't take into account their carbon dioxide emissions, meaning companies can set off the cost of high emitting vehicles against tax liabilities.
The system provides no incentive for drivers or companies to switch to cleaner, low-carbon cars.
Greenpeace's proposal would reward companies that use more fuel efficient and lower CO2 emitting cars.
Among the campaigns devised is "Choice of Youth" by jovoto community member jubiless, which is demonstrated by a child with a football referees whistle holding up a green card.
Road transport is a significant contributor of carbon emissions, with the UK's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs estimating in 2006 that the sector accounted for almost a quarter of emissions.http://blog.jovoto.com/2008/12/next-mission-greenpeace/
