Low carbon technologies courses to boost construction skills

Low carbon technologies courses to boost construction skills
A series of low carbon technologies courses will be held by The Green Register (TGR), the construction industry's environmental body.

The one-day courses held in the first week of March will focus on the "operation, application and limitations" of the full range of low carbon technologies for buildings, as well as giving a taster of technologies that will likely dominate mainstream construction.

Lucy Pedler, director of TGR, yesterday predicted that the main green construction trends this year would involve working with existing buildings and increasing demands from clients and occupants for high sustainability and energy-efficiency standards. In addition, builders will have to be more aware of legislation for environmental standards.

A lack of green construction skills in the industry has been considered the main barrier to hitting the government's target of all new buildings being zero-carbon by 2016.

However, the government has already launched plans to create 10,000 eco-homes in developments across the UK, which is expected to generate up to 2,000 local jobs.

We supply energy efficient houses and find that so many workers do not have the necessary commitment to pay sufficient attention to the detail required to build energy efficient houses. To so many people building is just a way of getting some money but building properly is a state of mind.
we need a new breed of committed people to step forward we have the technology we just need the people to put it together
