Low carbon packaging launched by wine producer
A South African drinks producer is planning to launch a new environmentally-friendly wine package in the UK.
Arniston Bay has produced a pouch-style package for its drinks, which it claims to have a substantially smaller carbon footprint than traditional glass bottles.
The company conducted a life cycle analysis on the packaging and found that even if wine bottles are recycled, the pouch has less of an impact on the environment.
Among the reasons for this is the fact that the pouch is significantly lighter than a bottle, helping to reduce the impact of transporting it from South Africa to the UK.
The pouch also has a practical benefit for wine buyers as it helps to keep the drink fresh for up to a month after being opened.
Arniston Bay's launch marketing campaign in the UK will consist of newspaper competitions and giveaways at railway stations, reports the Appointment.
