Low carbon initiative insulates homes for free

Low carbon initiative insulates homes for free
Insulation has been installed for free in 17 houses in the north-west.

A local government initiative between Fylde borough council and the Fylde Low Waste and Energy (FLoWE) scheme has seen households in the area fitted with free cavity wall and loft insulation.

The Blackpool Citizen observes that the programme was initiated as part of the government's Home Carbon Saver plan and has resulted in many households being signed up to receive their insulation for free.

Andrew Loynd, FloWE project manager explained that those who are eligible for the free service are the over-70s, residents on benefits in their 60s, pregnant women and families with young children, as well as those with disabilities.

However, others may be able to receive cheaper rates, he said.

"Everyone else can get vastly reduced insulation," he said.

"Everyone could benefit from the savings that good insulation can provide to heating bills."

Think Insulation claims that people who choose to install insulation will find that in just over a year it will have paid for itself through the savings it makes on heating bills.
