Low carbon hydrogen initiative gets £5m
An initiative to develop clean, cheap and sustainable hydrogen technology has received £5 million to carry out research.

The Delivery of Sustainable Hydrogen (H-Delivery) consortia, which is funded under the Research Council's Supergen programme, has received the initial grant over four years.

University of St Andrews is among 13 UK universities in the group and will be developing methods of generating hydrogen, a "carbon free energy vector" from renewable and clean electricity.

Together with 12 industrial partners, the universities will also be looking at converting hydrogen into industrial feedstock and fuels as well as carrying out socio-economic appraisals of hydrogen production technologies.

The final goal of the consortia will be to develop policy measures to promote the transition to a low-carbon hydrogen economy.

St Andrews professor John Irvine said: "There are two main technological barriers to the introduction of a Hydrogen Economy: efficient storage of hydrogen and low-carbon-footprint production of low cost hydrogen. In this project we seek to deliver new lower cost and improved efficiency methods for the production of sustainable hydrogen."

The UK is committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 80 per cent by 2050.

Process will give litre for litre treated, of waste water (raw sewage) potable quality water, and Hydrogen, clean and safe soild waste
ie 1,000 litres of raw sewage, 1,000 litres of Hydrogen gas, 1,000 litres of potable quality water.
under development to be tested shortly, water from this will power a power generation plant , from this process , to drive the steam turbine for power generation.
I will provide the means to run the boiler or the water from the treatment plant.
