Low carbon holiday complex to open in Wales
An environmentally friendly resort could revolutionise holidays in the UK, according to a report.
Steffan Rhys from the Western Mail was commenting on Bluestone, a complex of lodges and a Celtic-style village that has been built on 500 acres in the Pembrokeshire countryside.
Many of the lodges are fitted with solar panels and have used techniques from Scandanavia in the way they have been insulated.
The Blue Lagoon may be the only water park in the world that is powered by biomass energy, created at an energy centre within the complex that has a £50,000 turf roof.
Eventually the complex will also have a £25 million Snow Dome with a run 200 metres long for skiing, tobogganing and snowboarding.
"Bluestone has been developed on a grand scale but it has tried to remain largely loyal to Welsh designers, architects and suppliers as well as maintaining green credentials," wrote Mr Rhys, the first journalist to get a look at the complex.
Lodges are self-catering or fully-serviced and are available for week-long and short breaks.
