Low carbon economy 'should have central point of contact'

Low carbon economy 'should have central point of contact'
A central point of contact should be created to deal with all issues related to the low carbon economy, it has been suggested.

Paige Andrews, executive director of Climatico, said that the formation of such a body would be "highly desirable", as it would allow for a "clear and consistent message", encourage green investment and aid businesses in understanding government policy.

A PriceWaterhouseCoopers survey released earlier this month revealed that a lack of clarity exists within the business community with regards to green policy.

Despite 94 percent of firms stating that they believed climate change policy would impact on their operations in the next two or three years, many also said they felt uncomfortable making investment decisions based on existing regulations.

The results also revealed that many thought the application process for environmental tax incentives was "too onerous".

Ms Andrews added: "This central point of contact might best be provided through a partnership between public, private, and non-governmental bodies or in conjunction with existing or planned low carbon initiatives such as the Climate Change Act."ADNFCR-1235-ID-19870521-ADNFCR
