Low carbon economy opportunities to be shown to businesses

Low carbon economy opportunities to be shown to businesses
Businesses of all sizes are to be encouraged to seize the opportunities presented by the transition to a low carbon economy by a new partnership.

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and the Carbon Trust have joined forces to create progress towards meeting national emission targets.

According to the Carbon Trust: "The partnership will promote the business case for immediate concerted action on climate change to the wider CBI membership by sharing expertise and highlighting opportunities for all businesses which both improve energy efficiency and deliver financial savings against the bottom line.

"The partnership will support business through these difficult economic times and beyond to help them integrate emissions reduction into corporate strategy, manage and reduce the direct and indirect emissions and provide a wide range of advice and support for companies of all sizes."

Set up in 2001 as an independent company by the government, the Carbon Trust claims to have saved British businesses over £1 billion pounds.

At the CBI's recent summit (December 2nd), director general Richard Lambert said that a global economic downturn was not an excuse for easing up on combating climate change.

He called on the government to deliver a framework for investment to encourage businesses to develop green technologies and improve efficiency.

The CBI also recently launched the Climate Change Tracker to monitor progress towards meeting carbon emissions targets.
