Low carbon developments 'could become simpler in Scotland'

Low carbon developments 'could become simpler in Scotland'
The Scottish government is considering new legislation that would simplify the planning process involved in installing domestic green energy generation technology, it has emerged.

If the proposals are approved, the country could "fast-track" the process in which energy-saving home improvements are carried out, the Scotsman reported, as permission to install technology such as solar panels could be granted automatically if strict criteria are adhered to.

According to Scottish climate change and infrastructure minister Stewart Stevenson, changes to the country's planning restrictions could help the Scotland achieve its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050.

"Low carbon technologies in our renewable energy mix, including microgeneration and combined heat and power, will make a significant contribution to Scotland's future prosperity and help build increased, sustainable economic growth," he said.

In addition, it has been suggested residents may benefit from reduced bills, as Edinburgh pensioner Dora Elliot claimed her fuel bills have halved since she installed a photovoltaic panel and solar water-heating technology at her home.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18495328-ADNFCR
