Low carbon carmakers 'silent'
Low carbon car manufacturers need to highlight the environmental benefits of their product, according to new research.
A study by an energy efficiency organisation, Friends of the Earth Europe and We Are Futureproof found that in one online trial in the UK involving 363 participants, that low carbon carmakers did not distinguish their products from high-polluting cars.
Despite research showing that three quarters of people find a fuel economy label vital for helping them choose the right car, very few manufacturers were using the label on their website.
Blake Ludwig of We Are Futureproof said: "Our previous research showed that a fuel economy logo on billboard advertisements doubles the chances of the public correctly identifying emissions. Fuel economy and emissions data needs to be clear and accessible everywhere cars are promoted, including websites."
In a table of cars with 'best practice' in relation to the environment, the Mini scored the highest with 7.57 out of a rating of 12. It was closely followed by the Kia (7.47) and Lexus (7.43).
