London Olympics appoints carbon experts
The London 2012 Olympics have outlined their commitment to being energy efficient by appointing an expert carbon reduction firm.
Best Foot Forward has been commissioned to advise the organisers of the Games on how to decrease the event's carbon footprint.
The company will work to cut CO2 emissions through measures such as low carbon transport and low carbon building.
Paul Cooper, managing director of Best Foot Forward, told the Oxford Mail that it is not possible to remove the Olympics' carbon footprint completely.
He said: "The Olympics has set broad boundaries, by including spectator travel, athletes' travel and building the stadium when calculating its carbon footprint.
"You can see, for example, that half of the impact is about building the stadium. This can be reduced by changing the type of concrete used and other things."
Best Foot Forward has previously worked on reducing the carbon footprint of chef Jamie Oliver as he travelled across the US for a TV show.
A progress report on the sustainability of the London Olympics was recently published by the government.http://tinyurl.com/lh2okb
