Local councils may consider low carbon systems

Local councils may consider low carbon systems
A national sales manager at a UK heater and chiller distributor hopes local councils will be encouraged to switch to low carbon systems in their buildings, it has been reported.

According to the Telegraph & Argus, Eric Asquith of Bradford-based Shorts Industries claims that a system of gas-fired heat pumps could be even more effective than biomass boilers in reducing the carbon footprints of public buildings.

"The pellets to fuel the biomass boilers have to be imported and delivered by the truck load, and the boilers create ash so the system is not so environmentally friendly," he claimed.

Mr Asquith added that an alternative could be the Robur range of heat pumps, which may cut carbon emissions by up to 30 percent when compared with a traditional condensing boiler system.

"We will be trying to convince local authorities and other public bodies that the gas-fired heat pump system is more energy efficient and cheaper to run," he stated.

He said Stockport council and local authorities in Bradford are currently considering the benefits of such a system.

Earlier this year, the Manchester Evening News reported that efficient boilers could save householders up to £150 a year in energy bills.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18549780-ADNFCR
