Local carbon performances revealed
There has been a 21 per cent reduction in carbon emissions across the UK since 1990, new figures have shown.
Government data revealed that low carbon initiatives have helped to cut emissions by two percent between 2005 and 2007.
The north-east was singled out for improving its environmental performance, having the highest emissions per person in 2007 but the largest reduction between 2005 and 2007.
Greater London was shown to be the most energy efficient region, with six million tonnes of CO2 emissions per person recorded two years ago.
David Kidney, energy and climate change minister, said: "Every community in the country is working to cut their carbon footprint.
"Local authorities are at the heart of the community and as such can help in setting an example on tackling climate change through their own actions. We are helping people and businesses to save energy, cut emissions and save money."
The UK government launched a new Community Energy Saving Programme today (September 18th).http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/news/pn101/pn101.as...
