Labour MEP: Ed Miliband has strongest green credentials

Labour MEP: Ed Miliband has strongest green credentials
Ed Miliband is the Labour leadership candidate with the greatest green credentials, one Labour MEP has claimed.

Citing his record as the secretary of state for energy and climate change and his attendance at the Copenhagen climate change summit in 2009, Linda McAvan MEP said Mr Miliband has a "got a very strong claim on [being the greenest candidate]".

Ms McAvan, who is Labour's spokesperson in the European parliament on the environment and public health, also highlighted the fact that Mr Miliband wrote the Labour manifesto "where he raised the commitment on green jobs".

"Out of all the candidates they have both [David and Ed Miliband] got the most experience in the environment that's for sure," she added.

Dianne Abbot, who previously served on the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, former secretary of state for children, schools and families Ed Balls and Andy Burnham, who served as secretary of state for health, are also running in the Labour leadership race.

The results will be announced on Saturday September 25th.ADNFCR-1235-ID-800059874-ADNFCR
