Insulation and light bulbs can save homeowners £250 annually, says EST
Homeowners investing in energy efficiency can save hundreds of pounds every year in fuel bills, it has been claimed.

The Energy Saving Trust reports that households taking the time to energy-proof their homes can save up to £250 each year in energy costs.

It recommends switching off appliances, using energy efficient light bulbs, and turning homes into low carbon buildings by installing cavity wall and loft insulation.

Zoltan Zovody, strategy manager for the organisation, said: "There are a range of things people can do in their home that can be no-cost such as switching appliances off standby and turning the lights off as you leave a room."

He added that those interested in protecting the environment can also apply for grants if considering more expensive changes, such as installing insulation.

The National Insulation Association claims that 40 percent of all the heat lost in the average UK home is loft through the walls and the loft space.
