Humber ports 'frontrunners' for offshore renewables funding

Humber ports 'frontrunners' for offshore renewables funding
The Humber region should be a "frontrunner" for funds announced in the Comprehensive Spending Review to develop renewable energy at port sites, the region's Chamber of Commerce has claimed.

Richard Kendall, policy executive at Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce, said that the region has huge potential for offshore renewables at its ports and the announcement of £200 million for such projects should provide a boost to this.

"The fear has always been that without some government backing the biggest prize – the manufacturing facilities – would be lost to the continent," Mr Kendall said.

Plans are already underway from Able UK to create a Marine Energy Park in the region, the Grimsby Telegraph reported.

Managing director of the company Winston Phillips told the news provider: "The potential for Grimsby to become the European capital of renewable energy from offshore wind farms is phenomenal."

Mr Kendall added that the "groundwork" conducted in the Humber and Yorkshire region for the development of carbon capture and storage technologies leaves it well placed to receive funding from the government in this area.  ADNFCR-1235-ID-800154926-ADNFCR

How about tidal stream in the Humber estuary, plenty of energy there, totally reliable and predictable. Wind farms are useless during frosty, sunny anticyclonic weather! But Government grants unfairly favour wind.
