Honda 'to have electric car on market by 2012'

Car manufacturer Honda has announced that it intends to start selling low carbon vehicles by the year 2012.

Chief executive of the company Takanobu Ito said at a news conference that in two years' time it plans to release both electric and plug-in hybrid cars into the Japanese and US markets.

Mr Ito is quoted by the BBC as saying: "The next ten years will be true test for Honda's survival. Honda has no future unless we achieve significant reduction in CO2 emissions."

Plans are for the manufacturer's low carbon vehicles to undergo a demonstration programme in the US in the coming months, with participants in the test including Stanford University, Google and the city of Torrance in California.

No dates have yet been announced for the release of Honda's electric and plug-in vehicles in the UK.

Nissan is planning to launch its electric car, the Leaf, in the UK in late 2010 or early 2011.

Earlier this year the government announced that it would be providing the manufacturer with a £20 million grant to produce the vehicles in Britain. ADNFCR-1235-ID-19900770-ADNFCR

So let me get this straight, no dates have been announced as to when Honda be selling EV's in the UK, and Takanobu Ito said that they don't plan to release them into US and japanese markets until 2 years time. So the very first line of this article about starting to sell low carbon vehicles by the year 2010 (which we are in for those that haven't noticed) is rubbish.

And another thing, what does the phrase "low carbon vehicle" actually mean? Are these actually push-bikes? Or are they non-hydrocarbon burning cars made of wood and hemp?

This is a badly written non-article in my opinion!
