'Greening the home' on design agenda
Making properties greener or more environmentally-friendly was an aspect of house building recently raised at the Des Res exhibition public weekend last week, it has emerged.
The Times, offering an insight into what could be expected from the panellists, reported that the expert advice to be proffered at the show included tips on reducing the carbon emissions in the home.
Simple measures were emphasised by the experts, who included Alex Ely of Mae Architects and author of the Home Buyer's Guide, such as using less water, installing double glazing and switching to a condensing boiler.
Other ways in which to improve a home's environmental credentials are insulating the roof and investing in solar energy.
According to the report, solar panels are "the ultimate way to achieve a large reduction in carbon emissions".
Des Res recently presented an exhibition that focused on the environmental challenges London faces.
