Green investing 'requires consumer responsibility'

Green investing 'requires consumer responsibility'
Individual customers need to take responsibility to check the credentials of green and ethical investment products, a sustainable investment expert has warned.

Consumers need to consider the various approaches available within the ethical investment market before choosing which fund or product is best for them, explained Mark Robertson, spokesman for EIRIS.

With increasing numbers of green and ethical financial products on the market, he highlighted the importance of looking closely into the aims and targets of a particular investment product.

"What we would suggest is that people look at the fund's policy and see how exacting it is; whether or not it had distinct and concrete targets and policies that are easy to understand," Mr Robertson said.

"It is definitely down to the consumers, or their advisors, to look at what the fund's policy is," he added.

Figures published by Which? last year revealed green investment is particularly popular among women, with 47 per cent willing to take a lower return if their bank invested ethically, compared to 36 per cent of men.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18410742-ADNFCR
