Green energy electric vehicle charging points to be rolled out
Charging points for electric vehicles powered by green energy are set to be made available in the UK.
The Network One stations are the result of a collaboration between renewable power firm Green Energy and Green Motion, an infrastructure development company, Greenwise Business reported.
These will be the first charging points powered by renewable energy to be installed in the UK, however Network One already has installations in Switzerland, Germany and France.
Stewart Mckee, Green Motion (UK) managing director, was quoted by the news provider as saying: "This is a game changing industry partnership, which will accelerate the adoption of electric cars and reduce carbon-based energy reliance.
"It is also hugely significant to the UK's global technology position," he added.
Plans are to manufacture the new charging points in either Cheshire or Oxford.
The Department for Transport has already announced support for electric vehicle charging infrastructure to be installed in eight regions; London, Milton Keynes, the north-east, Greater Manchester, Northern Ireland, the Midlands and the east of England.
Green Motion believes by the year 2018 the UK will be home to around 100,000 charging points.
